Mum Given Bum Rush

I'm not sure if this is light-hearted or actually something much more sinister. (So I'll try to avoid the jokes - too late with the heading, then.)

Sadly, I suspect the latter...

Baby's bottom censored by store

A mother who wanted to give a birthday cake to her son featuring a photo of him as a baby was forced to have it censored because it showed his bottom.

Staff at the supermarket refused to scan the picture onto a cake as it featured nudity

To get a feeling for the true lunacy of this, it's worth playing the clip

As the mum points out...ASDA don't seem to have a problem with nudity when it's found on their magazine racks.

Now, I understand the world we (think) we live in, where there's a paedophile around every corner...and some studies make horrifying reading - I cannot find the source off hand but I remember (from my teaching days) a report from the NSPCC giving the figures for abuse of pre-teens as more than 1 in 10. In fact as a teacher, it always used to bring it home to me if I put it in terms of three kids in each of my classes - quite horrific.

And I understand the need for something like a CRB check -although I have a sinking feeling that they probably have little to do with actually preventing child abuse than with that favourite tactic of governments -

"We need to do something"
"This is something"
"Let's do this"

I don't (know that I) know any peadophiles - but I'm guessing their tactics generally don't include popping into ASDA with their favorite dodgy photo to have it put on a cake!

Likewise I doubt that many carry out their abuse in front of a class full of kids with the teacher present!

So I'm left wondering - if we have got to the point where a mum can't use a (hopefully embarrassing) photo of her son for his 21st birthday, perhaps we have lost more than we have gained.

We certainly seem to be in rather short supply of common sense.

The Real OC

I still can't find the time or enegy to be serious...so...

Schoolboy hacker Omar Khan who upped his grades faces 38 years in jail

It could be a long time before Omar Khan goes to college: as long as 38 years, according to Orange County prosecutors, who have arrested and charged the 18-year-old student with breaking into his prestigious high school and hacking into computers to change his test grades from Fs to As.

Well yes...he's been a naughty boy...

...but thirty eight years - child molesters get less!!!

Am I the only one that feels a sneaking sense of admiration for him?

Wouldn't a few week's detention be more appropriate?

And I'm thinking - he allegedly did this because he failed to get a place at college.

There must be a few universities that have some places on their computing courses still free...I'm guessing he could be a straight A student...

..and when he gets his degree (and remembering the level of expertise of the IT departments in school where I taught.)

...give him a job at his old school...perhaps Head of Department!

Just a thought

I hardly seem to have time to post anything at the moment...certainly nothing requiring any real thought...

...but I was just making lunch and as I took a potato out of the packet, I noticed that Sainsbury's had added a sticker to the bag...

"As Seen On TV"

So, I just wondered...what programme were they in? Were they all in the same episode or series or was it a one off special?

And - most importantly - have I just ended the promising TV career of an up and coming spud by microwaving it for 7 minutes?

Stll. tasted pretty good...
