Baby's bottom censored by store
A mother who wanted to give a birthday cake to her son featuring a photo of him as a baby was forced to have it censored because it showed his bottom.
Staff at the supermarket refused to scan the picture onto a cake as it featured nudity

As the mum points out...ASDA don't seem to have a problem with nudity when it's found on their magazine racks.
Now, I understand the world we (think) we live in, where there's a paedophile around every corner...and some studies make horrifying reading - I cannot find the source off hand but I remember (from my teaching days) a report from the NSPCC giving the figures for abuse of pre-teens as more than 1 in 10. In fact as a teacher, it always used to bring it home to me if I put it in terms of three kids in each of my classes - quite horrific.
And I understand the need for something like a CRB check -although I have a sinking feeling that they probably have little to do with actually preventing child abuse than with that favourite tactic of governments -

I don't (know that I) know any peadophiles - but I'm guessing their tactics generally don't include popping into ASDA with their favorite dodgy photo to have it put on a cake!
Likewise I doubt that many carry out their abuse in front of a class full of kids with the teacher present!
So I'm left wondering - if we have got to the point where a mum can't use a (hopefully embarrassing) photo of her son for his 21st birthday, perhaps we have lost more than we have gained.
We certainly seem to be in rather short supply of common sense.

IMHO the climate we have approached is what I like to term a tick-box culture. No-one is concerned with discernment now, you have any number of boxes and the solution must go in one of those boxes.
Most people don't want to think, they simply want to get the job done, so now we just tick boxes. The problem comes in instances like this where there's clearly one box- the porn box and so that's all there is to tick.
The other problem is the law. Hate to sound like a conspiraloon but the government has introduced so many laws and regulations they've literally conditioned people to think there's a law about everything they do. They simple invent rules because there probably is a law and if there isn't there will be one soon.

I have to say I agree with this. It's sad that more people don't realise the first premise should be "we need to do something useful"
